Doki Doki Literature Club

Unpopular Opinion

I failed to find an HTML book in Barnes and Noble's that afternoon, so I came back home at night feeling bored and disappointed. To make myself feel better, I scrolled through itch.io to find more games to rate. I chose to the free games section, and low and behold, 'Doki Doki Literature Club' was for free. I only have vague memories from watching short clips of playthroughs during middle school, so all I can recall is

spoilers deleting the files and Monica being the “bad guy”.

I instantly called my friend? From high school because he and my other friend were JUST talking about it the day before, but I dismissed it and left them on seen. He described the game as "peak", and said that "Yuri is hot". I went on call so that he watched me play. Reflecting on my game play, I can say that

spoiler after searching up google many times for how to delete Monica’s file if one downloads it on Itchio instead of Steam, and watching two anime teenage girls kill themselves/self-harm.
I can say that this game is in fact not 'peak', and that Yuri is fucking crazy and anyone who continues to see her as hot despite seeing those deeply disturbing images of Yuri is weird as duck. I am aware that Monica was manipulating her code throughout the game amplifying her obsessive tendencies to a high scale.

However,

spoiler once again it was really cool seeing the game move outside of its own server and seeing the files pop back up completely out of my control

I don't ever wanna play this sh*t ever again. I think some games should just be left to the real gamers to play...some things are better being watched on Youtube than played.

Story Rating

no idea, too biased to give points. I want to give a deeper delve into the characters, but that image of

spoiler yuri's blood all over her arm
is ingrained in my head. I'm really sensitive to blood, so that's a hell no for me.

Update: I watched a therapist's optimissitic and compassionate take on each of the girls later in the day, so that healed me from that cursed image in my head. Now that I am thinking about them in a relaxed state, I can say that I find it satisfying seeing often fetishized anime big boobie girls, finally have fleshed out and flawed characters. The character I find the most interesting would be Natsuki, she doesn't have the complete realization like Monica that she is in a fake world, but she is unable to be as easily manipulate comapred to the other two,

spoiler I figured this out through the therapist and her letter of concern about Yuri, damn I didn't even think about that...
